My two favorite time periods to write in are the 1880s and the 1930s.
My first novel was published in December 2020. It was a novel I had written years ago during my attempt to be a stay-at-home mom. I soon discovered that writing was an all-consuming passion for me. I had a very hard time being a good listener because my head was in my stories far too much. (I had already put myself on a strict book limit because I wanted to be present with my lovely children.) I realized that teaching was a better fit for our family for both income and scheduling, so I promised God I’d put writing to the side until my kids were grown.
On Election Night, during the COVID shutdown, with my youngest now a teen, I realized it was time. I ended up writing a contemporary novel in less than a month, and then I went back and did edits on A Misplaced Beauty.
My grandmother had read A Misplaced Beauty about fifteen years prior, and I remembered how much she had loved it even though she wasn’t one to read books. Grammy was starting to decline physically and mentally, and I wanted to get that book in her hands while she could still enjoy it again. So I just did it. I watched a ton of YouTube videos and read many articles on how to self-publish. I spent so many hours playing around with cover design programs and learned to format on KDP. (It’s only been a few years but most of the tools I learned back then are already archaic due to AI!)
Oh my goodness, I have learned so much since then! Somehow I overlooked the use of action beats and had such a passive style of writing. It’s a little embarrassing, to be honest, but somehow, so many readers loved Georgina’s story.

I felt so blessed when I was invited to be part of The Thanksgiving Books & Blessings series created by Caryl McAdoo, who is such a gifted writer and precious woman of faith. Here’s more about that series and my contribution: https://walshmountainpublishing.com/2026/07/02/thanksgiving-books-and-blessings/
Another wonderful author and Christ-follower asked me to join the incredible authors of the Brides of Pelican Rapids series. Thank you, Lisa Prysock! Here’s a little about this series and my book, Adelaide’s Decision: https://walshmountainpublishing.com/2026/07/02/brides-of-pelican-rapids/

Possibly the project dearest to my heart was Voices in the Sanitorium. This tale goes back and forth between the 1930s and 2009. I began writing this while I was still teaching from home during the “Pandemic.” It was inspired by a virtual field trip I took my students on via Zoom. Meegan, the owner of On and On, was telling the students about a spooky mannequin, and it prompted a whole scene about a doll. Here’s more about it: https://walshmountainpublishing.com/2026/07/02/voices-in-the-sanitorium/
Jenny Knipfer, who is one of my heroines for how she handles MS and still finds a way to bring God glory, invited me to participate in the Apron Strings series. This was one of my favorite books to write because the main character made me laugh so hard as I was writing. Nellie truly took on a personality.
