The Debutante’s Code has everything a historical mystery buff could desire: murder, theft, and abduction; secret compartments, hidden passageways, puzzles, and secret codes! Erica Vetsch introduces the reader to quite an assortment of engaging characters, including a drunken Uncle Bertie who isn’t everything he seems.
Lady Juliette travels home after many years spent at boarding school apart from her parents. Unfortunately, her journey back to London has had one catastrophe after another. Her hopes for a loving reunification with her parents are dashed when she finds out her parents have been called away on urgent business. This is just the beginning of a debut season of disappointments and shocks.

Daniel, a young Bow Street Officer, is assigned the investigation of the painting that goes missing during Juliette’s debut ball. Daniel has dealt with years of loneliness and bullying, which began when a mysterious benefactor offered to pay for his prestigious education, but only if Daniel would have no more contact with his single mother. Daniel’s mistreatment has continued with his superiors in law enforcement. Daniel is determined to find the culprits of the series of crimes that occur in relation to the missing painting — if he fails, he is most likely out of a job.

Juliette and Daniel appear to be attracted to each other. They also have much in common: quick and humble minds, growing faith in a sovereign God, consideration for others, and even some abandonment issues. But these two young people become adversaries as Juliette is forced to cover up the secrets that Daniel is trying to unfold.
This was the first novel I have read by Erica Vetsch. I was so impressed with the quality of her writing! Her writing is well-researched, and I love her style! I am looking forward to the sequels that tell more of Juliette and Daniel’s story.

My Interview with Erica
1. What influences led you to love reading and writing?
My influences were the dozens of books I read as a kid. Laura Ingalls Wilder, Walter Farley, Helen Wells, Zane Grey, and so many more. I loved disappearing into the world of stories, and I loved continuing the adventures of my favorite characters after the stories ended. It seemed natural to transfer those continued adventures into stories of my own.
2. What advice do you have for aspiring authors?
Read a lot. Write a lot. And learn as much as you can about the industry so you can make informed decisions about your career.
