A Night at Character Café — VOICES!

Meet Katherine

Welcome to Character Café, Katherine!  It is so wonderful to finally meet you.  I have been hearing about you for a couple of years now – and all the trials you had when you moved to my neck of the woods – northeastern Pennsylvania.

I am happy to finally have the opportunity to try some of your famous scones and tea, Amy!  I am also relieved that we are finally on the right track with Aislyn’s mental health.  It is so hard when your child is facing demons that you do not understand.  I cried more than I have ever cried during our time near the West Mountain Sanitorium.

I AM SO SORRY THAT YOU WENT THROUGH ALL THAT.  I FEEL SORTA LIKE A RUBBERNECKER, FASCINATED BY THE DRAMA GOING ON IN YOUR LIFE.  SO SORRY TO BE SO CURIOUS ABOUT YOUR CHALLENGING TIMES.  BUT CAN YOU TELL ME MORE ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED?

It’s totally okay.  I have learned through this that you can keep all your pain trapped inside where it eats away at your soul, or you can talk about things – and have a ministry in other people’s lives.  There is such a healing in the sharing.

YES.  I HAVE NOTICED THAT SOME OF THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE GONE THROUGH THE GREATEST TRAGEDIES SHINE THE GREATEST LIGHT INTO OTHER’S DARKNESSES.

If we hadn’t gone through this summer of torture with Aislyn, I wouldn’t have learned the importance of family communication and connectiveness – and I wouldn’t have known how important it was to pray for my children.  Now, hopefully it isn’t too late — but I won’t make the same mistakes with my youngest children.

AS LONG AS YOUR CHILD IS STILL IN YOUR LIFE, I WOULD HOPE IT IS NEVER TOO LATE.  CAN YOU GIVE US SOME DETAILS? PLEASE!

Well, I don’t want to give anything away from our story.  You are going to have to make a purchase to get all the deets – ha-ha!  But the gist is that we moved into a house across the road from the ruins of the West Mountain Sanitorium – and strange things started happening, especially after Aislyn purchased an antique diary that JUST HAPPENED TO Be the diary of Bridget, a patient in the sanitorium in the 1930s.

DIDN’T YOU THINK IT WAS AN AWFULLY STRANGE COINCIDENCE WHEN SHE FOUND THAT DIARY – AFTER YOU HAD JUST MOVED TO PA?

In retrospect, I realize that there were many things that should have been more obvious to me.  But I was grappling with my own issues.  I had much buried grief and regret that I won’t get into here.  I notice the café is starting to fill up, so I don’t want to take up too much of your time.

OH, MY GOODNESS!  YOU’RE RIGHT!  I WAS SO WRAPPED UP IN YOUR STORY THAT I DIDN’T NOTICE THE GLARES OF THE OTHER CUSTOMERS.  UGH!  WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE FROM OUR MENU?  I WILL PUT IN THE ORDER RIGHT AWAY!

Well, my mother is an incredible baker, so I would love to see how your scones match up to hers.  I will take your apple cinnamon scone with the maple cinnamon glaze.  And I have developed a thing for the rose and raspberry combo.  I love those flavors in a latte, so I will try your tea!

Coming right up, Katherine!  Blessings on your launch today!

Thank you!
