A Morning at Character Cafe with Morgan from Not Again

Amy and Morgan sitting at a cafe with the cover of Not Again on the side

Well, if it isn’t our college town’s lacrosse star, Morgan Ricci! I saw the game the other day. You played incredibly well!

Thank you, Amy. But, I couldn’t have made those goals if my teammates weren’t awesome at passing the ball to me.

Aren’t you a sweetheart! My brothers are both sporty guys. They were watching the game too. Not to give you a big head, but they both said you are one of the best players they have ever seen.

[Turns a bit red as though not used to compliments] Thank you. I needed to hear that. Things… Well, things have been a bit rocky lately.

I’m sorry to hear that, Morgan. Can you tell us a little more about your life — and you as a person?

First and foremost, I’m a child of God. I’m also the daughter to two wonderful parents who brought me up in a Christian home. I’m the middle girl, and my sisters and I have a younger brother. We all grew up playing sports year-round and are fierce competitors. I play Division One field hockey and lacrosse for Harborview University of Baltimore. My lacrosse coach calls me Red because of my red hair. I’m studying to be a high school math teacher. One of my favorite things to do is read the Word of God and host Bible studies.

What is your biggest challenge right now?

Fitting in college is my biggest challenge. Never in a million years did I think it would be this challenging to forge meaningful friendships. I didn’t have this problem in high school. As a result, I treasure those friendships from Pennsford even more now.

What is your greatest desire?

Honestly? So many other college kids I know would make fun of me for this, but… my biggest desire is to get married and raise a family with Christ at its center.

I love it that you are so firm in your faith. I was waffling between the world and Christ when I was in college so I have so much respect for you. Do you have a theme verse?

Yes, I have a life verse: “Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:31-32).

That’s a great verse, especially if your college life had been angsty lately. Oh my goodness, I just noticed your fingers are all swollen. You must have gotten injured during your last game! I guess that is common in lacrosse.

Yes, I’m getting used to having aches and pains for a few days after a game. I don’t want to come off whiny, Amy. I’m truly grateful for all that God has bestowed upon me. He blessed me in the richest of ways, even though I’m not deserving. I thank God every day for sending His Son to die on the cross for my sins. I want nothing more in life than to give God the glory He deserves.

Amen, sister! To God be the glory! [Looks at her watch] Well, you need to head to morning practice soon so I’ve gotta get you fed. What tea flavor represents you, your region, or a theme in your novel?

At this point in my life, I would say sweet tea. It represents Maryland as a southern state, my home for the last few years.

I can pour a cup of Luzianne tea over ice and add some sugar if you are in the mood for a glass of iced tea. https://luzianne.com/

What is a breakfast pastry or dish on our menu that resonates with you?

Pancakes and bacon. When I’m stressed, I want carbs and fat!

We have delish mini bacon and pancake muffins this morning. You will love them! https://kirbiecravings.com/mini-bacon-pancake-muffins/

They sound amazing. I can’t wait!

And I can’t wait for your novel to release on March 5th! Right now the preorder for the eBook is only 99 cents, so I hope everyone will take advantage of this great deal before the price goes up. I enjoyed reading it so much, and I cannot wait to see what other readers think.
