This is the first time we’ve had a knight at Character Café! Welcome, Sir Thomas.

Call me Thomas. I’m Sir Hustwell’s page, so I’m still training to become a knight. Thanks for inviting me. It’s good to have a break from our mission.

I must say, you’ve been given quite a bit of responsibility for a teen. I heard that you have to escort the royal children to safety. Is there much danger involved?

More than I expected. I thought the biggest challenge might be dealing with Mia. I confess, I always thought she was on the spoiled side. But we’ve had way more challenges than just her being contrary. We’ve had to fight battles against enemy warriors, ancient sorcery, and bitter grudges along the way. I thought the end was near more than once.

Yikes! Now that I’m looking closer, I can tell you’ve been through some hard times. You look exhausted and a bit battered.

I admit I’m a little sore. And tired. But I can’t complain. Too many have lost their lives in this fight for the Light.

That’s ironic! I almost lost my life due to a sweet gum tree a few days ago.

What do you mean?

I was in the middle of a skirmish when I tripped over a gum tree root. That was one of the times when I really thought I wouldn’t make it. I’ll take some of that tea. I definitely need my wits about me — especially now that I have the suspicion that there’s a traitor in our group.
